Requirements & installation

What JobCore needs, and how to install it and its add-ons.

JobCore is a standalone jobs board for WordPress. It does not need WP Job Manager or any other jobs plugin.

Requirements#

  • WordPress 6.5 or newer (tested up to 7.1)
  • PHP 8.0 or newer
  • Working e-mail from WordPress (wp_mail) — applications, job alerts and review notices are sent by e-mail
  • Optional: the News. theme (portal header, Import / Export, shared sign-in pages)
  • Optional: WooCommerce 8.0 or newer, for the Paid Listings add-on

Installation#

  1. Go to Plugins → Add New, search for JobCore, install and activate it. You can also upload the .zip from the product page under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  2. On activation the plugin creates a published page called Jobs (address /jobs/) with the [wpjc_jobs] shortcode, and sets up the board addresses.
  3. A notice “You are nearly ready to start listing jobs with JobCore” appears in the admin. Click Run setup wizard, or Skip setup to keep the defaults.
  4. Add employers and jobs under Jobs in the admin, or add sample content to preview the board first.
The setup notice is shown to administrators until the wizard is finished or skipped. Skipping keeps the defaults; you can change everything later in Jobs → Settings.

Installing add-ons#

Each add-on (Paid Listings, Promoted Ads, Field Editor, Looks, Job Widget) is a separate plugin. Install and activate JobCore first. If an add-on is active without it, the add-on shows an error notice — for example “JobCore – Looks is an add-on for JobCore. Install and activate JobCore to use it.” — and does nothing else.

Deactivating#

Deactivating JobCore stops its scheduled tasks (job alert digests, application file clean-up and the weekly licence check) and refreshes the site’s addresses. Your jobs, employers and settings stay in the database.
