Ads
Ad sizes, placements, Google AdSense / Ad Manager, your own campaigns and wallpaper ads.
Ten standard sizes are supported: Billboard 970×250, Large leaderboard 970×90, Leaderboard 728×90, Rectangle 300×250, Large rectangle 336×280, Half page 300×600, Skyscrapers 160×600 and 120×600, Mobile 320×100 and 320×50. Every slot is filled from the first source that has something:
- Direct campaign (Ad campaigns),
- your own ad code (News. → Ad codes — Google Ad Manager tags, Adform, a direct banner…),
- Google ads (AdSense or Ad Manager),
- demo creatives (placeholder banners; only while Google ads are off).
News. → Ads switches ads on, sets the label above ads (“Advertisement”) and the placements. Premium readers can read ad-free, and single stories can be ad-free (No ads on this story).
Ad blocker message#
News. → Ads → Ad blocker message: readers with an ad blocker see a friendly message asking them to allow ads, with a reload button and (optionally) a button to Premium for reading without ads. Set the title, text, color and delay; choose whether readers can close it and when it shows again (next page, after a day, after a week or never). Readers who read without ads (Premium) never see it.
Google AdSense & Ad Manager#
News. → Google ads: choose AdSense or Google Ad Manager.
- AdSense: enter your publisher ID (
ca-pub-…) once and the ad unit ID per size — the theme writes the code; wide slots are responsive on phones. Auto ads use the same script. - Ad Manager: enter your network code and the ad unit path per size (e.g.
/21234567/news/billboard). Fluid and multi-size slots let each slot take fluid creatives and the smaller standard sizes that fit (the billboard takes 970×250, 970×90 and 728×90 on desktop, 300×250, 320×100 and 320×50 on phones). Lazy loading loads ads shortly before they scroll into view. - ads.txt is served at
yoursite.com/ads.txt(unless a real file exists): the AdSense line is written from your publisher ID; add lines from other networks in the ads.txt field.
Placements#
| Placement | Setting (News. → Ads) |
|---|---|
| Billboard under the header | 970×250 on desktop, 300×250 on phones. |
| Inside the article text | First ad after paragraph X, then every Y paragraphs, at most Z per article; 300×250, 336×280 or 728×90. Never inside the locked part of Premium stories. |
| Article sidebar | Sticky half page 300×600. |
| Above the comments | Leaderboard 728×90. |
| Skyscrapers beside the page | 160×600, 120×600 or 300×600, sticky, only on screens wide enough for the site width. |
| Sticky phone banner | 320×50 (or 320×100) at the bottom on phones, with a close button. |
| Anywhere | The Ad slot block / Elementor widget, in any of the ten sizes. |
Ads that only exist on some screens (skyscrapers, phone banner) are inserted only where they fit, so no hidden ad is ever loaded or counted.
Ad campaigns (ad server)#
Sell banners directly under News. → Ad campaigns. A campaign fills every slot of one size:
- Creative: a picture (plus an optional phone picture, e.g. 300×250 for a billboard campaign) or HTML code, and the click-through link.
- Targeting: where it runs (everywhere / front page / articles / sections), start and end date, blackout dates (days on which it pauses).
- Share of views: 100 % takes every view of the slots; lower values leave the rest to your ad code or Google (e.g. 30 % for a sponsorship).
- Weight: several campaigns of one size rotate per view by weight.
- Booking: booked impressions and clicks (the campaign stops by itself when delivered), a daily limit, and a frequency cap — at most N views per visitor per day.
Views are viewable impressions (at least half of the banner on screen for one second); clicks go through a counter. Each campaign shows its views, clicks, CTR, delivery and a 30-day chart, and you can download a CSV report per campaign (daily rows) or for all campaigns — ready to send to your client. Rotation happens in the visitor’s browser, so it works with full-page caching.
Wallpaper ads#
A wallpaper (site skin) puts a large picture behind the page: the site becomes a column over it, and the visible sides and the space above the column link to the advertiser. Create campaigns under News. → Wallpaper ads: picture (1920 × 1080 px or larger), link, background color, space above the page, picture size, where it runs, dates, blackout dates, weight, booked impressions / clicks, daily limit and frequency cap. Several wallpapers rotate per page view; views, clicks, CTR, the 30-day chart and CSV reports work as for banner campaigns. Wallpapers only show on screens wide enough for the sides to be seen; skyscrapers and the header billboard step aside while one runs.
